1990

There aren't a lot of pictures of me in drag, but it's a fair bet those there are will wind up here eventually. This is probably the most feminine.

It's Sydney, Sleaze Ball 1990. We'd missed out on dressing up for Mardi Gras, so I was determined to put a bit of effort into Sleaze. Had pretty much no money, but the charity shops of Surry Hills came up trumps. With a bit of makeup help from the femme half of the Kiwi dyke couple we lived with at the time, I was ready to look lipsticklezalicious at the showgrounds.

Of course, that's not going to get you too much boy attention -- and sure enough, it didn't. But hey, I was monogamous at the time.

On the right, my then-boyfriend Guy, who has featured in a few blog entries already. In the background, with the hat, my dear friend Bruce -- he's had a mention too, and I expect he'll wind up centre stage sooner or later. The night's drink was Stormy Weather, my legacy to Gilligan's (which they later fucked up with Blue Curaçao, damn their eyes), so we were already pretty far gone before we even got to the party. And a good time was had by all.
