Burble Burble

OK, I think I'm happy with what's going on here. It's not exactly groundbreaking, but it'll do for the time being. I'll be fiddling with the background colour and border of the main content area until the cows come home, but apart from that I can live with it.

The straw I've desperately grasped at cheap trick kludge elegant structure I've settled on (and I don't claim to be in any way original in this) is to use blog entries to hold the stuff in the "who what why" bar across the top ("where" excepted, since it makes sense as a simple mailto). Have content management system, will travel.

So now I just have to write those entries. Why, obviously, is already done -- that's what prompted this idea in the first place. I imagine Who will be along fairly soon. As for the others -- frankly, I don't even know what they're for yet, so who can say when I'll write them?

This is all predicated on the ability to easily re-edit blog entries, which fortunately MT provides. It wasn't part of the original plan, which would have entailed a lot more faffing around. Score one for well-thought-out software (even if it is written in Perl). Naturally, I'm not expecting to go back and constantly edit the non-headline entries.

I guess this is one step closer to going public. Does that mean I have to lose the drunken madman raving incoherently to himself demeanour?

Yeah, like that's ever going to happen...

Isn't MT an absolute joy? The more I use it, the more I get a thrill at the way it meekly and rather perfectly does its job and doesn't demand anything in return. Sort of like an efficient public-sector librarian. The real antithesis of your Microsoft Bloatware all-singing all-dancing West-End production. Let's hear it for software which doesn't insult your intelligence!

I mean, can you imagine: Microsoft by Moveable Type:

"It looks like you're writing a blog entry. Would you like some help?"

Erm, typo: That was meant to be "Microsoft buy Moveable Type".

Thanks so much for that thought, Dan. Now it's lodged in my mind like Logan's deathbed Agadoo. Ugh.
