Incognito

After some dithering, I have decided -- again -- not to sign up for NaNoWriMo. I don't have enough free hours in the month ahead to get anywhere near the requisite wordage, and I'm not quite convinced by the argument that sheer quantity is a meaningful goal in itself.

Instead, I'm going to commit to a kind of slacker parallel effort over the same timespan. I figure it may run to about 20,000 words, but if it turns out to be 10 or 5 that'll be fine too, as long as it turns out. As long as I make it to the end.

This is not quite as much of a cop-out as it may seem: finishing things has always been my biggest weakness, the thing I just can't bring myself to do. Simply forcing myself to complete whatever kind of half-baked shambles Incognito becomes will be an achievement.

Naturally, this exercise is to be carried out entirely in public, on the pages of WalkyTalky. If nothing else, it should drive me to post a little more often than of late. And there'll be the entertainment value of my failure when it all goes horribly wrong. (Trust me, you'll be able to tell.)

Let the games begin.

Cool! I'll try and keep up if I am not too swamped with writing my own magnificent octopus.

Very glad you're writing in the same spirit. As you say, finishing the job is important.

Indeed it is. Good luck with your own rather more ambitious effort. I'll certainly demand to read it when your cooling-off period is over.
