Park

I had three tickets for Jasmin Vardimon's Park last night, but neither of my intended companions could make it, nor could any substitutes be found. It's possible I could have got rid of the spares -- they turned out to be pretty much the only empty seats in the house -- but I didn't realise that until it was too late.

A shame, because the piece turned out to be pretty good, reminiscent of Les Ballets C de la B, messy but joined-up, with some lovely, lively dancing, inventive theatricality, and -- of course -- assorted shouting, swearing, nudity and violence. Only played two nights this time around, but it's supposed to be returning in November, at which point I may try to press-gang one or two of you into going.

Vardimon's earlier Lullaby is on at The Place next week. Antonio -- one of last night's absentees -- took me to see it last year, but I have to admit I don't remember it very well. A few images stick in my mind -- some startling stuff with a wheelchair, I think -- and I know I liked it at the time. It's smaller-scale and less boisterous than Park, and I'm tempted to revisit it in the light of the latter.

In the meantime, though, the inevitable Star Wars outing is finally happening tonight; yes, it's taken us this long. I'm expecting the worst, of course. I'll let you know how it goes.

I hear it's not so bad. Of course, it doesn't have to do much to improve upon the previous two installments. And it could never top this:

...even if it is in Flash (hides face and runs away wailing).
