Born Again

You may vaguely recall my slight bitterness, back in May, when my usually card-happy company failed to notice the passing of my birthday. How strange was it, then, to receive a birthday card today, with an assortment of congratulatory messages on the advancing of my years?

It was, in fact, the anniversary of my joining the company; I've now been at APT a whole year. It seems that a simple administrative mix-up led to the wrong date being noted down wherever these things are recorded, et voilà: all perfectly innocent.

Or is it?

Is APT instead, perhaps, one of those sinister cults in which all traces of your previous identity must be cast aside? Was my arrival, seemingly so simple and workaday, actually a subtle exercise in brainwashing? A rebirth? Am I now nothing more than a devoted, unquestioning disciple of Arbitrage Pricing Theory?

Can I hear an "Amen!" brother?

Hmm. Perhaps not :)

Ooh! Happy birthday, agent 160804!

Mix-up or no, it must be nice to know that you weren't being alienated deliberately, only unintentionally ;) Happy anniversary - it really does feel like yesterday that you announced the new job; time flies.
