The Line

This quote from Aussie author Nick Earls came courtesy of flerdle, whose itinerant wallaby blogs here:

Not everyone gets to know if they've ever really been in love. But plenty of people get a worse deal than that, and don't even get round to telling other people how they feel at all. Most of the world's most important conversations never end up happening, just because people won't put themselves on the line.

I don't know to what extent that applies here -- on the one hand, WT is somewhere I have license to be as open as I choose, sometimes (though perhaps not lately) quite painfully so; on the other, it is always so filtered through the artifice of composition that a pinch of salt is really the least you should take it with. In any case, the quote strikes a chord more generally.

Nevertheless, however many important conversations I may have failed to have, I can at least say with absolute conviction that I've been in love. And, for all the agony it has sometimes wrought, that is something I will cherish to my dying day; the fact of it, and the people, who mean more to me than I could express if I wrote from now until doomsday.

Which, of course, I fully intend to do :)
