Departure Vector

Notwithstanding the grim experience of a year ago, I am off to the Isle of Wight once again this weekend. I can't decide whether this represents a heartening ability to move on from the past or just the numbskulled failure to learn from it, but no matter.

Possible products of the trip include pictures, injuries and catastrophic liver failure, some of which may be shared here. That's assuming I manage to reach the place at all; I have a number of marks to hit before then. I'd better get on with it...

Last year was tough on many fronts; approach it as new. After all, the past is the past. Have a great time, and be thankful that you can cycle at all (functional limbs notwithstanding) ;) x

Saturday was so inexplicably beautiful that it almost seemed like Fate's reward for giving it another go. Were it not for a "fatality" at Wimbledon on the way home yesterday -- some lovelorn computer programmer throwing himself onto the tracks, no doubt -- the weekend would have been a perfect antidote to the last time.

As it was, the return journey was even worse than usual, but the lesson to take from this is a more general one, not limited to the Isle of Wight: on no account try to travel back to London by train on a Sunday evening, from anywhere, ever. Especially with a bicycle.

Next time I shall stay until Monday.

Oh, and you were up late on Friday. For good reasons, I hope, not just post-surgical insomnia.
