Unreliable Narrator

Oh dear. There seems to have been an inadvertent hiatus here at WT. I have nothing to say in my defence other than that midwinter is always a difficult time for yak, and internet connectivity from my yurt is intermittent at best. I shall try to do better in the weeks to come.

Little has occurred, in any case, beyond the exigencies of herding. At one point, in celebration of the turning of the year, the tribesmen erected a makeshift screen of tanned hide and we all gathered by the fire to watch a scratchy, subtitled print of The Chronicles of Narnia from a hand-cranked projector. Arguably, the viewing circumstances were less than ideal, but in truth I suspect that this slapdash piece of rubbish would seem even more contemptible if viewed in pristine Dolbied glory and luxury cinematic surroundings. As a harsh wind blew in from the Gobi, few could be bothered to stick it out to the hackneyed finale; I am not particularly happy to have done so myself.

In any case, the year turned. The transition was -- and remains -- all but imperceptible out here, as is so often the case; but I hope that, where we do see change it will be for the better. May 2006 be good for you, and for us all; and, just perhaps, we might yet see normal service -- whatever that is -- resumed around here.

Later, fellow herders.

Now now. It wasn't THAT much of a waste of celluloid.
