Filler 39
...or perhaps not. Right now I'm boring even myself with that whole derivatives malarkey; a little rest won't go amiss. Not that I have very much else to report. Work is currently expanding to consume more time than I can stand, but I'm as much to blame as anyone for nevertheless standing it. No more! It's time to be a hardass about things; for Jack to be not quite such a dull boy. Last week saw outings to the Caesar Twins, Cirque du Soleil and Popstarz, all in the space of about 36 hours; which was exhausting if nothing else. The twins were cute in a rather smirky way, and some of their acrobatic feats impressive, but the show was thin and lacked any kind of theatrical vision. Pablo & Pierre would probably shine as carefully-rationed stars within a larger ensemble, but they can't carry an evening on their own (they weren't, quite, but their support was hopeless). Alegría on the other hand, was splendid spectacle, polished, extravagant, finely-detailed and great fun; I even enjoyed the clowns. It's Cirque pretty much at the top of their game, not quite as bland and corporate as, say, Dralion, and I'd see it again in a trice. Popstarz was mostly about queueing. Also featured were drinking and dancing, some emotional ups and downs, and a fair number of how low can they go? soundtrack moments: it's hard not to feel old watching a roomful of eighteen year olds grooving to Chesney Hawkes... After that, well. Let's just draw a discreet veil over Saturday night, shall we? Some things are best not written down.Posted by matt at February 9, 2006 11:05 PM

They may be best unwritten, but will they remain unspoken? There's the rub.
