Democracy 2
It's that time again, so I'm off, somewhat gloomily, to the polling station. It'll be a dark day for the city if the Outer London anti-Ken contingent propel his gormless, cloth-eared, crypto-fascist mophead buffoon of an opponent into power. We'll be a laughingstock. But that seems almost inevitable. Sigh.Posted by matt at May 1, 2008 08:52 AM

Had I the presence of mind, I'd have registered and offered you my proxy vote. As it stands, I'm unable to vote from here in Italy ;)
So are you free Friday 9th, evening? Sin and I are planning to hit up an old favourite (Iranian noshery) for dinner -- perhaps he's already been in touch about it. Anyway, if not, cancel all your other plans and come with us because it just wouldn't be complete without you =)

I fear I wouldn't have been able to get to your polling station today, anyway. But you know who I'll hold personally responsible when Boris wins...
The 9th is not explicitly booked, although Fridays tend to be a bit tricky. I shall do my best -- and will in any case be sure to get together with Mr Venial during his visit. Is there a Kali outing planned?

I'm not sure, though I can't make it anyway - Friday is the only evening I'm free as my friend Helen is over from Boston for her Cambridge graduation ceremony. Hope to see you soon!

Fear not; I believe it would take a great deal more than that for you to supersede us as the laughingstock of laughingstocks.
(I mean, the Usurper-in-Chief did steal both elections, but still, the fact that we haven't risen up as one and burned the White House down speaks ill of our national character.)

In the immortal words of Prince (and Chaka K.): I feel for you.
