Filler 55

As so often these days, yer actual blogging around here has been sorely neglected. And, as so often these days, I don't have time to do justice to what's been going on, so will instead merely frame a few random sketches before rushing out to see Grace Jones at the RFH courtesy of Massive Attack's Meltdown. I failed to see Massive themselves on Saturday night, on account of being in the Isle of Wight, cycling and stuff; Ian tells me I missed a treat. I did make the full orchestral perf of the Blade Runner soundtrack, which was odd but splendid and seemed altogether in keeping with the curators' triphop stylee.

Among the various things to be given short shrift now is Sutra, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's rather lovely collaboration with Antony Gormley and a bunch of kung fu monks from the Shaolin Temple, which was more interesting than Myth and made great use of many identical plain wooden boxes. And the perf by School, sporting fellow CoMPLEXer James on drums, which was the first proper gig -- as opposed to poncy concert of the kind Grace will shortly be providing -- I've been to in years. I doubt I'll be making a habit of it, but it was fun. And the Pharmacology Sports Day, which was extremely hot and sunny and saw me press-ganged into playing cricket, of all things; the last time that happened would have been a good deal longer ago than the gig thing. But it was a fun day all told.

I will, however, expend a couple of minutes rhapsodising about the new boiler we finally had installed a couple of weeks ago. The previous one had been playing up for ages, mainly in the field of hot water provision, leading to a great many fraught and miserable showering experiences. When it finally gave up even pretending to try to heat water we bit the bullet and ordered a replacement, but in retrospect we should have done it two years sooner. Not for nothing did the Romans build their centuries-spanning empire on plumbing. What a joy to luxuriate in cascades of dependably hot water every morning! I could stay in there for hours :)

There's probably more, but it'll have to wait. See y'all after the show.
