Once

Tonight's familial outing went okay. As predicted, Anne Teresa's solo didn't exactly persuade the mother-in-law that Rosas are the best thing since sliced bread, but she appreciated various things about it and overall it wasn't a major failure. Once goes on a bit, and is a bit self-indulgent, but I liked most of it a lot. There's some lovely dancing and a couple of moments of great humour. It would be a lot better without the last 15 minutes, but, pah, artists. Who's going to tell that to one of Europe's greatest dancemakers?

And it was followed by a very pleasant dinner, then home, and now this.

If all goes according to plan, Ann will be leaving London tomorrow probably before I even get up (she's not staying here, I hasten to add), so that's this block of in-law duties out of the way, but there'll be more next weekend as she's visiting again to help Bethan out with something, this time with Ian and Bethan's dad Rich in tow. It's extremely rare for him to be lured away from his North Wales lair, so that'll probably need to be marked in some way. Next weekend is also my own sister's birthday, so there'll be family obligations on all sides. Eek.

Grateful though I am to have accepting and attentive families on both sides of the relationship, I must confess that part of me occasionally resents their demands, even though those are infrequent and almost never onerous. At least one of my multiple personalities is definitely a bitterly antisocial loner, probably with homicidal tendencies. He occasionally surfaces during crisis times at work, and Ian also has to deal with him from time to time. Ick. He's not a nice guy at all, that one. Let's hope he never gets a leading role.

Meanwhile, an accidental juxtaposition of songs in iTunes led me to post the previous entry, which I guess is probably pretty inexplicable otherwise. Think of it as another Quote of the Day.
