Filler 20

I have to admit, this place has really got a bit dull lately. I really ought to do something about that. But then I ought to do lots of things.

For instance, I'm currently pondering a number of personal projects to keep myself busy while looking for work (seeing as the looking itself is not really keeping me busy, more just grumpy and suicidal). The most sensible one in the short term would be to port Pollen to Windows. I'm also tempted by the prospect of doing some J2ME and/or servlet-based stuff just to keep my hand in. Or I could just fiddle with this site while Rome burns.

None of these things is pressing enough for me to feel justified in actually dedicating a chunk of time to it, and so instead I'm dithering as usual.

On the one hand, it may well be helpful to have something new to show off, and it's certainly a good idea to do a bit of coding from time to time just to remind myself how. On the other hand, shouldn't the immediate priority be wading through page after page of inappropriate and depressing job ads until I'm reduced to a hysterical wreck sobbing in the corner? And sending my CV out to agents who probably won't even look at it until sometime next year when they'll suddenly call me in the abbatoir at which I'll by then have been reduced to mopping up blood and entrails because they think I'm the perfect candidate for this fantastic opportunity programming Visual Basic for a direct-marketing organization in Weston Super Mare? Isn't that what being nearly jobless is all about?

(I am beginning to think I may not be approaching this whole business in the right frame of mind.)

Anyway. If you have any suggestions or recommendations for projects I should tackle, please do let me know. (Max: I haven't forgotten your IMDB suggestion, and I'm thinking about it.)

Oh, and while you're all doing my bidding, go and wish Daniel good luck for his test de passsage tomorrow.

Might I suggest that you embark on a project to find a cure for dithering? If I had any money, I'd even pay you to do it ;-)
