Waterfront Property

I've written before about the Fleet's gurgling presence outside our door. Suddenly this lost waterway is all the rage.

A block away, the pedestrianized Vine Street Bridge over the railway has become venue to a bizarre open air exhibition about the Fleet, complete with a sandpit and paddling pool. Blue bunting marks out the approximate route of the subterranean stream under Clerkenwell Road, and signs lead back here:

This marks the culvert I mentioned, where the river can be heard rushing along below. The text at the bottom reads:

What if you could punt from Kentish Town to the Thames?

That would be a pretty long day out, with quite a few locks to negotiate, but what the hell, it sounds like fun. Let's dig up the whole river and have a go.

Oh, and the white balcony in the top right of the picture, with the greenery peeping up over it? That's my riverside home.

That's £150,000 worth of exhibition, apparently.

You have to speculate to accumulate.

A pity about the missing apostrophe in "Londons".

Yes, Dunx, and also the inconsistent punctuation.

And the distinct lack of an F in Blackfriars. Not that I noticed until it was pointed out to me ;)

This is my 'hood! Oh how I wish I knew what the OLD Clerkenwell and "Blarkriars" area were like. Now there are three different Starbucks within a short walk from my front door. At least there's a paddling pool too, though.
