Excursion into Philosophy
One of the things we did for Ian's birthday was go to the Edward Hopper exhibition at Tate Modern. It's a fine exhibition with many great paintings, but boy is it depressing.Just about every picture is steeped in loneliness and desolation, which is all very well when you just see one or two in among lots of other stuff, but the cumulative effect of room after room of this was almost unbearable. If it weren't for things shading into self-parody towards the end, I probably wouldn't have got out of the gallery without bursting into tears.
Admittedly, that may say more about my own frame of mind than about Hopper. Nevertheless, it certainly isn't an upbeat show.

Comments
this is not really a comment, more a question. I've been looking everywhere for a print of Edward Hopper's 'Excursion into Philosophy'. They seem to have every other picture, just not this one. If anyone knows where i could get hold of one I would be very very grateful.
thanks

Normally these things would be deleted without mercy, but in this case I've left one around on the offchance it may be of use to someone. The reproduction seems pretty tacky and overpriced, though. -- Matthew] Posted by: JoJoMa at August 14, 2005 08:20 PM
