Comedy Tonight

Oh, oh, wouldn't she be so nimble
Fiddling with her thimble
Mending a gown?
Oh, oh, wouldn't she be delightful
Cleaning up
Leaning down?

The now months-long period of unsettled emotional weather shows no sign of abating, but at least there are ups as well as downs; and not only on the trampoline.

Work, a month on, remains a perilous expedition into the trackless wastes of terra incognita. Admittedly, the geography does now look less alien, but I still feel like a stowaway, a fraud, a huckster who finagled his way in under false pretences and lives in constant fear of being found out. Surely they can see it in my face? Surely that can hear it in every word?

What are you doing here? How did you get past security? Guards! Guards! Escort this man off the premises. Then shoot him.

Meanwhile, my home life has become, I don't know, shark-infested custard? Perhaps not yellow and dangerous, but certainly a mixture of comfort and terror. We are becalmed, Ian and I, and then storm-toss'd. Of course, no-one can ever tell what their next morning will bring, but in our case the volatility seems well above normal levels; I wake each day with trepidation.

It is nice, therefore, to have something to look forward to more or less unreservedly. Just now that's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which we are seeing with Kym at the the NT in less than 19 hours. If that doesn't prove to be a fun night out then, really, what hope is left?

No royal curse, no Trojan horse
And a happy ending, of course!
Goodness and badness
Panic is madness
This time it all turns out all right!
Tragedy tomorrow
Comedy tonight!

Something appealing, Something appalling,
Something for everyone: A comedy tonight!

D'oh...now I am going to be singing that for the rest of the day. International person will ask, "what is the funding available for this?" I will respond with, "Old situations, New complications, Nothing portentous or polite;
Tragedy tomorrow,Comedy tonight!"

Oh sure, I will feel really smug about it but the boss will stare at me and in the end nobody will be happy. Well, at least I will be singing...

No royal curse, no Trojan horse, And a happy ending, of course! Goodness and badness,
Panic is madness-- This time it all turns out all right! Tragedy tomorrow, Comedy tonight!!!!!!!!

Gosh I feel better already.

Hope you enjoy. I did, although as a Sondheim piece it suffered badly by comparison to Sweeney Todd the same week.
