Here we go again...

Playlist prepared, iPod charging, CDs burnt (redundancy is important), outfit laid out and waiting. Everything is ready. Everything except us.

This is probably the most under-rehearsed we've ever been. We are few, now, and various of us don't know various steps. We'll be fine, eventually, but the first two or three performances are probably best thought of as dry runs. Or possibly wet runs, given the vagaries of the weather. Last week's glories are no more, alas, but at least their passing was marked by some rather spectacular thunderstorms. Can't help loving a bit of drama in the sky.

Add to our unpreparedness the march organisers' positive hostility to the whole Marching Boys endeavour -- there's been a lot of loose talk about throwing us out of the parade, calling the police, etc; an uneasy accord has been reached, so fingers crossed there, but the whole business is pretty tiresome -- and the unfortunate coincidence of another, lesser-known musical event, and it looks set to be a shambolic, stressful and fundamentally irrelevant day for all concerned.

But fun, possibly. That's what it's all about. I must try to remember that.

I'll keep you posted, of course. Meanwhile, if you happen to be in the neighbourhood, do say hello.
