Olympia

Just after one o'clock, the Red Arrows roared overhead trailing red, white and blue smoke; it wasn't hard to guess, then, who'd been picked to host the 2012 Olympics. Yay! In all probability this will fuck up the whole city completely for the next 7 years and turn into a dreadful international embarrassment, but I'm happy about it anyway.

And I can do with something to be happy about. Not that things are unhappy, exactly -- far from it, in fact, when compared to most of the last year -- but the inevitable post-Pride anticlimax makes an unfortunate combination with the apparent onset of sodding winter. It's disheartening to realise how pathetically dependent my moods can be on the vagaries of the British weather. To be so easily buoyed up by the merest glimpse of sunshine is a benefit, certainly; rather less to be so susceptible to the dampening effects of a chill drizzle. It's supposed to be July, for crying out loud!

Anyway, never mind that. The far more important issue is: where do I book my tickets for the men's diving?

I can only agree: I am stupidly excited about this, even though I don't live in Britain any more (let alone London) and stand fundamentally zero chance of seeing any of the events in person.

I just think it's really cool.

I'm delighted you got it and we didn't. Quite selfishly, I'd rather you be inconvenienced in London than me here in NYC. Cheers.
