Delivery 2

Another month, another hand-waving excuse for an essay. This one really is a load of waffle, lacking any hint of that keenly-sought novelty, but by the same token it's not been as stressful as the last. There's only so het up one can get about rehashing other people's nonsense. Anyway, just one more of these to go, due date five weeks hence.

Rest beckons this weekend, along with Inland Empire. After that, who knows?

Saw IR not long ago at the NFT. I don't want to raise your expectations, but it's fantastic. Enjoy. x

Given your masochistic tendencies vis-a-vis movies, my expectations are not especially raised :-P

On the other hand, they were quite high already, so we'll just have to see.

What Max said. The 'it's fantastic' part, not the 'saw it at the NFT' part (saw it at the IFC Center in the Village).

Well, I probably wouldn't go as far as 'fantastic'. It's good, and some of it is brilliant, but there's a good deal too much of Laura Dern looking pained in murky corridors for my taste. A little of that goes a long way. Give me Mullholland Drive any day.

Still, if you liked either of those and haven't read Steve Erickson's Arc d'X then I strongly recommend it.

something about laura dern looking pained in murky corridors just made me laugh.

Kurt! Shit, I thought you'd vanished off the face of the Earth. YHM.

(Tsk. It's 0.26, not 1.26. Guess that crazy US shift of daylight saving has fucked up the time zones again...)

Yes, Mulholland Drive certainly raised the bar very high. But Inland Empire's meant to be a different kind of film, and a different kind of film experience, altogether, dontcha think?

Ah, the heck with it, who'm I fooling... there's no use in my feigning objectivity where Lynch is concerned, I love 'em all madly.
