Filler 52

Apologies for the last entry rather obviously running out of steam -- there's plenty more to say there, but manhandling it into bloggable form may be beyond me.

It's been -- and is set to remain -- a complicated weekend. Among its events was our outing to The Golden Compass, which is not as bad as one might fear but far less good than one might wish; a turn on Mikey & Iain's Christmas Lights Bus Tour, a lovely tradition of itinerant partying; house viewing with my mother, who is selling the familial home and downsizing to something more suited to her current lifestyle, but not sacrificing ambition in the process; cycling to and from that, underprepared, in the driving rain, which is obviously no-one's stupid fault but my own but no less fucking annoying for that, perhaps more; skipping CoMPLEX-mate Yoanna's pre-birthday dinner; and preparing to head to Bermondsey for CoMPLEX-mate Ed's mulled wine and carols party. I'm sure there is something deterministically inevitable about today being the date of the -- in my case otherwise largely deserted -- annual social calendar, but still it's still slightly annoying.

Also, someone on the bus was showing off his iPhone. I thought I had some kind of perspective on this, but OMFG. I honestly don't think I've ever seen any gizmo ever that is such a perfect advert for itself. And my ancient Sony Ericsson w810i is definitely beginning to creak with age...

You won't find me in this picture:

...because I wasn't there. (Too cold, too crazy.) But this morning's stroll down 9th Avenue and through those big glass doors revealed a much calmer scene. So calm and so seductive that I almost walked back out with an iPhone in bag/hand. Almost. It's the closest I've come yet. But no. Must be strong. Must resist its pull. (Until next year.)
