Bringing Home The Bacon

Although we haven't actually seen the chicks -- one doesn't like to intrude -- the behaviour of the balcony blackbirds suggests that there are hungry mouths to feed in that nest. Awww.

A brief scan of relevant web pages suggests that these critters have a fairly low recruitment rate, so best not to be too hopeful. At least they should at least be pretty safe from predators up here. Fledging time is about two weeks, so we'll just have to wait and see...

These, by the way, are the first pics from my new camera -- the major 40th birthday gift from the collective -- and very lovely it is too. A very different beastie from the cherished reversible screen unit that sadly died a few weeks ago; and addressing a different need. My mobile phone turns out to be more than adequate for snaps -- see the previous post and probably many future ones -- though I do miss the rotation feature. This new chunk of hardware requires a bit more intentionality, but the prospects for prettiness seem good so far. Watch this space...
