Masquerade

Wandering the city today, I chanced all unprepared on a movie shoot at the foot of Lloyds:

Some guy in uniform and mirrored shades riding a horse

Slow moving traffic

An erstwhile James Bond at work

Of course, this sort of thing happens all the time -- indeed, there was fairly convincing evidence of a second, unconnected, flick shooting just around the corner -- but I couldn't help finding it peculiar that they chose to use one of London's most distinctive buildings to stand in for NYC.

On the basis of Mr Brosnan's published activities, I have to assume they were doing some character-establishing fragment of Mamma Mia, even though no ABBA songs were in evidence.

Despite the perversity of the whole idea, I must say I was impressed by the shorthand Manhattan scene-setting -- yellow cabs, a horse-borne representative of New York's finest and -- of course -- steam rising from the street. Someone on that set has a Masters' degree in Applied Visual Cliché and they're not afraid to use it.
